Here are some rhythm poems from 3rd and 4th graders at a public school in Miami, Florida.
What is a rhythm poem?
A rhythm poem is a poem that is all about the beat. What the words mean is not important in a rhythm poem, and sometimes they make no sense at all. (We don't care! We are 3rd and 4th graders and we rule!)
We started by working out the number of syllables in our own names. EDrick, ShanTRELL, TyKEISHa, GREGory, Linda, ShaRAYna, MarQUEZ.
Next we put together the names with the same number of syllables.
Then we had a snack.
We started to look more closely at the stress patterns in our names. What do they sound like when we say them? We don't care if they rhyme, but we want to see if some of them have the same beat as well as the same number of syllables.
That brought us to BOOM ba. Which is different, of course, from ba BOOM. To say nothing of BOOM ba ba, ba BOOM ba, and ba ba BOOM.
Say what?!? next
